INFORMATION technology (IT) specialist and machine shop owner Gepind Requierme from Mandaue City aspired to become the city's vice mayor after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, October 1, 2021.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Mandaue City posted on their Facebook page that Requierme was the first candidate to file a COC as an independent candidate.

In an interview, Requierme told Sunstar Cebu that he will pursue becoming a public servant after getting encouragement from his political friends.

He told Suntar Cebu that he is friends with former senator Antonio Trillanes and former Naga town mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong. Both of them encouraged him to run for a local position in Mandaue City.

After six years of living in Mandaue City, Requirme told Sunstar Cebu that he believes that he already understands the community's needs.

Requierme said he has a lot of plans for Mandaue City and believes he could contribute a lot in the field of infrastructure as he is a graduating student of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

He also told Sunstar Cebu that he will contribute to improving the industrial sector in Mandaue City and bring in more investors.

He said he will also promote activities and programs for the youth as he believes that they are the future of the city.

After filing his COC, Requierme said he is now working on his campaign materials for the residents of Mandaue to know him and his purpose of running for office. (KFD)
