Speeding motorcycle driven by Indian national kills student

AN 11-YEAR-OLD student was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle driven by an Indian national in Barangay Lintoan, Loon town, Bohol on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2022.

Local police identified the lone fatality as Junil Dangoy, a Grade 5 student and resident of the said barangay.

Gourav Kumar, a 31-year-old Indian national who works as a lending collector, was arrested after the accident but was later released after he and Dangoy’s parents reached a settlement.

Senior Msgt. Bernie Bolaño, investigator of the Loon Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that Dangoy was about to cross the road on the way to school at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday when he was hit by a motorcycle driven by Kumar.

Kumar, who was with backrider and fellow Indian national Amritpal Singh, 26, was on his way home to Tagbilaran City when the accident happened.

Emergency personnel immediately brought Dangoy to a nearby hospital but he died at arrival.

Kumar and Singh also sustained minor injuries after the accident.

Bolaño said that Kumar was temporarily detained at their station but was released later in the afternoon after Dangoy’s parents signed an affidavit of desistance.

Kumar also promised to pay the victim’s parents around P100,000 for Dangoy’s funeral expenses. (BBT / JKV)
