Deadline.com reports that ViacomCBS filed an infringement suit against a restaurant in Houston called “Rusty Krab” claiming that it infringes on the trademarks and copyright of the SpongeBob SquarePants show. The suit also states that the restaurant’s name “Rusty Krab” is an imitation of the “Krusty Krab” restaurant where SpongeBob works in the TV show. “Rusty Krab” even advertised itself as “Houston’s VERY FIRST Spongebob Squarepants-Inspired Pop Up Restaurant and Bar!” VIAcomCBS avers that “Rusty Krab” seeks to deceive people into believing that it is affiliated with SpongeBob SquarePants. “Rusty Krab” even serves drinks named like “Pineapple Under the Sea” (Sponge Bob lives in a pineapple house under the sea), “Bikini Bottom” (“Bikini Bottom” is the name of the undersea city which is the setting of SpongeBob SquarePants), “Secret Formula” (the “Krabby Patty” sold by “Krusty Krab” has a secret formula) and “I’m Ready” (SpongeBob’s catchphrase).
