THE Stallions kept their perfect record intact as they captured their fifth win with an 87-74 victory over the Vipers in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu City Season 17 at the Visayan Glass gym on Sunday, March 1, 2020.
The undermanned Stallions — which had just eight players suiting up — banked on a huge third period surge, where they outscored the Vipers, 23-16, to build a 61-50 lead.
They then kept their foot on the gas pedal to take the victory and bring their win-loss record to 5-0, good for tops in the 10-team league.
Former Cebu Institute of Technology-University hotshot Joshua dela Cerna led the way for the Stallions with 26 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Ex-University of San Jose-Recoletos standout Ajie Villaver also did a lot of damage as he had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Jaypher Ocañada chipped in 14 markers and three blocks while Kim Trigue pulled off a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Nestor Bardilas had 10 points and eight assists.
Cesafi’s slam dunk king, Miguel Gastador, led the Vipers, which dropped to 3-2, with 14 points.
Meanwhile, the Tigers kept the Hawks grounded and without a win with a 100-87 victory. John Cabahug led the offensive onslaught of the Tigers with 21 points while Jez Gersana put up 19. Marsun Tabay contributed 18 while hotshot Christopher Obeso tallied 16 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. (JNP)
