FILIPINO-American fighter Mark Striegl makes his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut on Aug. 23 (PH time) in “UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar” at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 32-year-old Striegl, who was recently signed by the UFC, faces Russian Timur Valiev as the show’s curtain raiser.
After spending much of his career in the PXC and URCC, Striegl finally has a chance to showcase his talent in the biggest MMA organization in the world.
Striegl won four of his last contests, wherein his last fight resulted in a no contest with Japanese fighter Sunichi Shimizu in “URCC 77: Raw Fury” on April 27, 2019 in Manila.
Striegl’s winning streak is comprised of a unanimous decision over Sotir Kuchikov in the ONE Championship, a submission win over veteran Andrew Benibe, a unanimous decision over Gi Sung Kim and a submission victory over Do Gyeom Lee.
Striegl will have his hands full against the 30-year-old Valiev, an 18-fight veteran with an impressive resume. Valiev is on a six-fight winning streak since his split decision defeat in the hands of Chris Gutierrezin 2016. He is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Taigro Costa last Dec. 13, 2019. Striegl is 18-2, while Valiev is 16-2. (EKA)
