SINGAPORE — Train services between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun stations were disrupted for almost half an hour on Monday (2 August) afternoon, after a female commuter climbed over a half-height platform screen door at Yio Chu Kang station and got onto the track.

In a Facebook post, rail operator SMRT said commuters on the platform sounded the alarm, and SMRT staff on site responded. Traction power was then turned off, and the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force were activated.

At about 2.10pm, some 15 minutes after the incident occurred, the police escorted the commuter, who was not injured, out of the track.

Train services resumed at about 2.20pm.

SMRT is helping the police in their investigations.

Several videos of the incident have circulated online, showing an individual apparently dressed in a school uniform, walking along the side of the MRT tracks and seemingly poised to step over the edge.

In response to Yahoo News Singapore's queries, police said they received a call for assistance at about 1.55pm, when a female commuter was seen walking on the MRT track at Yio Chu Kang station.

She was subsequently brought to safety and apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. She was also arrested for criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code.

Police investigations are ongoing.
