THE Cebu chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines Graduate Auxiliary (UAPGA) is set to hold a 36-hour virtual competition called the "Techtonic's: Design and Build Hackathon" among all architecture students and graduates and professionals of other related fields from April 30 to May 2, 2021.

Janine Namoc, co-lead organizer and vice president for programs and development of the UAPGA Cebu chapter, said the event aims to produce a minimum viable product that could help improve the systems and services of the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.

It also aims to create potential startups that are geared to help the AEC industry.

"The hackathon provides a platform for creative and fun innovation through fast-paced brainstorming and collaboration among people from different backgrounds," she said.

"Hackers will be challenged to come up with a quick solution for the most pressing issues in AEC industry and present it to professionals," she added.

Namoc said the first 12 hours of the competition will be alloted for a pitching session wherein the registered teams will brainstorm and consult with their respective mentors.

It will be followed by the 24-hour execution stage wherein the participating teams must work on their ideas.

A two-hour pre-event will also be done to discuss the would-be problem statement and theme of the competition.

Namoc said each team must have at least three to five members.

Each team will be provided with a mentor in addition to a maximum of five participants.

She said Each team could have not more than two professional members while the rest of the members should either be fresh graduates or students of design and build industry, information technology, and other related fields such as engineering, programming, and business among others.

Their works will be judged according to impact, feasibility and creativity/innovation.

Namoc said first-place winners will receive a prize of P30,000; second place winners will receive P5,000. While the third placers will receive P3,000. (WBS)
