A group of students featured in a recent viral video proves that wisdom does not always come with age.
In the video posted on Monday by Facebook user Sam Chi, the students can be seen calling out a security guard for allegedly hitting a homeless man outside the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) in Malate, Manila.
Chi said that the incident happened last Wednesday last week.
The video did not catch the alleged hitting but the guard can be seen explaining to the students that he has been telling the homeless man that he can’t sleep at the university’s sidewalk.
“He’s old, just look at him. He’s not even doing anything, don’t hit him,” a student can be heard telling the security guard in the video in Filipino.
“So you guys make him leave,” the guard shot back.
An exchange of expletives between the guard and the students goes on for a bit until the security officer walks away.
“What the guard did was inhumane,” Chi wrote in his post in Filipino.
“I know you’re just doing your job but this is too much.”
GMA News’ Balitambayan reported that the security agency behind the institution suspended the security guard while the incident is being investigated.
The video had over 1.4million views and 26,000 shares as of this article’s posting. Netizens weighed in on the incident:
Jamire Zacarias wrote in Filipino that it’s wrong if the guard really did hit the elderly man.
“You can make him leave, but don’t harm anyone. The elderly man wasn’t hurting anyone.”
Arnel Cosmilla wrote: “You can tell [him] off, just don’t hurt him.”
Dee Tan said: “Go kids well done!! You have a heart and [express your] concern to (sic) others. Salute to the parents of these kids!! God bless.”
