AFTER a two-month rest, 2016 Olympian Charly Suarez returns to the ring and takes on Lorence Rosas in the 10-round bout in the main event of VSP Promotions’ “A Warrior’s Call: Fight for Supremacy” on April 24, 2021 at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan City.
Suarez, 32, just saw action last Feb. 13 and beat Jon Jon Estrada by a lopsided unanimous decision in Tarlac.
Suarez has transitioned well to the pro ranks since making his pro debut in 2019. He’s a three-time Southeast Asian gold medalist and is a one-time Asian Games silver medalist.
The 26-year-old Rosas should be a good test for Suarez because he’s a tough and experienced fighter.
Rosas gave World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 2 ranked bantamweight Mike Plania a tough fight in 2016, wherein he lost by majority decision.
Rosas is currently on a funk, losing his last four contests. His most recent fight was an eighth round technical knockout in the hands of Mark Anthony Geraldo in 2019.
Suarez is 5-0 with four knockouts, while Rosas is 9-5-2 with three knockouts.
In the undercard, Arjie Toquero (13-5-3, 10 KOs) locks horns with Jino Rodrigo (5-2-2, 4 KOs). Veteran Richard Pumicpic (21-11-2, 6 KOs) takes on Landy Cris Leon (13-21-5, 6 KOs). Lorenz Ladrada (8-1-1, 2 KOs) faces off with Marklin Itim (2-4). World-rated super bantamweight Jhunriel Ramonal (17-8-6, 10 KOs) keeps himself busy against battle-scarred veteran Pablito Canada (7-18-4, 1 KO). Roy Sumugat (10-11-1, 4 KOs) slugs it out with Eljohn Evangelista (4-3, 1 KO). Jover Amistoso (1-0) trades leathers with newcomer Noli James Maquilan. (EKA)
