HOMEGROWN food market Sugbo Mercado will reopen in a new location in Lapu-Lapu City on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Sugbo Mercado co-founder and president JP Chiongbian said the new Lapu-Lapu branch located across Gaisano Grand Mall in Barangay Basak will have the same strict safety measures against Covid-19.
“We’re happy to note that a vast majority of our food entrepreneurs have enrolled in our new venue,” Chiongbian said.
The Sugbo Mercado in Lapu-Lapu City features new tenants that are unique in the branch.
“This is part of the culmination of what we have been doing during the pandemic. This is part of our road plan to really guide and incubate all food start-up entrepreneurs. This is all of the efforts from Sugbo Mercado to Let’s Eat Bai to LEB. Most of our new food entrepreneurs are from Let’s Eat Bai. They want to complete the process of being an entrepreneur,” Chiongbian said.
He said sales are picking up and even online sellers are coming onsite.
“Hopefully as the economy becomes better and the pandemic cases here stays lower, we’ll see the full potential of our platform,” he said.
Chiongbian also noted a healthy ecosystem of food entrepreneurs in Lapu-Lapu City.
Michael Karlo Lim, marketing and communications director at Sugbo Mercado, said there’s a good mix of new and old tenants in Lapu-Lapu.
“That’s one thing we are trying to do. We are making sure everybody gets a taste of what is part of Sugbo Mercado in the other branches while also having food choices that can only be found in these particular sites so there would be varieties,” Lim said.
The group is also working on cloud kitchens to expand the coverage for delivery.
“With these platforms and a 24/7 cloud kitchen in the works we believe that we can cultivate more homegrown entrepreneurs and see more big brands coming from Cebu through this process,” Chiongbian said.
The outdoor dining is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday. Dining is implemented in controlled numbers to observe social distancing.
Food deliveries are also available through Foodpanda and LEB apps. Curbside pick-up is also in place through their vendors. (JOB)
