PROSPECT Danrick Sumabong and former world champion Jhack Tepora will headline HBG Promotions’ “Suntok sa Pangarap VII” on Dec. 17, 2021 in Bohol.
Sumabong takes on Francis Jay Diaz for the vacant Philippine Youth super flyweight title in the main event.
Sumabong, a native of Tagbilaran City, is coming off a two-year hiatus. His last fight was on Aug. 31, 2019, in which he walked away with a split decision win over veteran Jonathan Francisco. Like Sumabong, Diaz is also coming off a long layoff. He last fought on Dec. 2, 2019, wherein he was stopped by Judy Flores in one round. Sumabong is 10-2 with eight knockouts, while Diaz is 8-3-1 with a knockout.
Meanwhile, Tepora makes a much-anticipated comeback against Jino Rodrigo in the show’s co-main event. A former interim World Boxing Association featherweight champion, Tepora has not fought since suffering his first career defeat, a first round knockout loss to Oscar Escandon on Dec. 21, 2019.
Rodrigo, in the meantime, just beat experienced Roberto Gonzales by unanimous decision on July 3, 2021. Tepora is 23-1 with 17 knockouts, while Rodrigo is 6-2-2 with four knockouts.
Two other former Omega Gym boxers, Jessie Cris Rosales and Jhaleel Payao, are also making a ring return. Rosales (22-4-1, 10 KOs) will trade leathers with journeyman Junny Salogaol (14-18-5, 13 KOs), while Payao (16-1, 9 KOs) will face former teammate Marjun Piencenaves (6-2-1, 4 KOs).
Also in the undercard, Joseph Sumabong (1-2) will lock horns with Ramil Yacapin (2-4); Kit Ceron Garces (1-0, 1 KO) will slug it out with Toni Tuñacao; Chris John Daan will go against Henry Flor; John Vincent Pangga (5-1) will square off with Cedie Noblefranca (0-6-1); Alex del Rio will be fighting Miguel Semblante (0-1); Marco Pumar (1-0, 1 KO) will face off with Rhezon Tarona (0-1); Richie Cacanog will take on fellow newcomer Riche Antigua; and Keyt Niño Abatayo (1-0) will exchange blows with Marlon Alejandro (1-1).
