Popular Cebuano big man Reeve Ugsang will be getting his chance at the pros as he suits up for the MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars in the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.
Affably known as “Super R” for his antics on social media, the 6-foot-6 big man previously played for the University of the Visayas in high school before moving on to Far Eastern University in the UAAP and then, Southwestern University-Phinma in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI).
Although he has been away from the game for a year, Ugsang relayed his excitement at getting the chance to strut his stuff on the hardcourt once again as he joined the Aquastars on Tuesday.
“I feel great. Lipay kaayu ko nga after a year, after sa mga nahitabo sa atoa tungod sa pandemic labi na sa amoa mga athletes nga apektado pud, mostly amoa conditioning,” said Ugsang who was left stranded in Palawan for months following the Covid-19 outbreak last year. “But i did my best to stay in shape and be ready all the time.”
Ugsang will be joining a loaded Talisay City squad that has several veteran frontcourt players. However, he emphasized that he is ready to help the team in whatever way he possibly can.
“Wala ko mag dahom nga kuhaon ko nila but ako ma-contribute especially na loaded jud kaayu ilaha roster is that I will just do my best every time I have the chance nga makadula,” shared Ugsang. “I will focus on rebounds and defense and sa mga little things nga importante like setting a good screen sa amo mga guards and be more vocal defensively.” (JNP)
