MANILA, Philippines — “Bakit di mo pinagbigyan na mabuhay siya? Ang dami niyang pangarap sa mga anak namin, sa pamilya namin, bakit mo ginawa? Napakawalang puso mo (Why couldn’t you have just let him live? He had so many dreams for our children and our family, how could you do it? You are so heartless),” said Brenda Maquidato, widow of slain Grab driver, Gerardo “Junie” Maquidato Jr., after facing the suspect responsible for her husband’s death.

The victim’s mother, Maximiana Amolato Maquidato, also lamented, “Sabi nga ni Lord magpatawad raw ng 777 times, pero parang di ko yata makuha kahit isa (The Lord said to forgive 777 times, but I don’t think I can do it even once).”

Maquidato was shot by suspect, Narc Delemios last October 26 in Pasay City, when the latter boarded the victim’s car as a Grab passenger.

According to the suspect, he was just supposed to steal money from the victim. However, Maquidato resisted, prompting him to shoot him in the head.

“Hindi ko po alam na siya ay good samaritan. Humihingi po ako ng pasensya pero mahirap na po talagang maibalik. Pera lang po talaga ang gusto kong kuhain sa kanya pero lumaban po siya kaya ko po nagawa yung krimen,” said the suspect.

(I was not aware that he was a good Samaritan. I am asking for forgiveness for what I did. But I know I can never bring back his life. I just wanted his money but he resisted and that’s how I ended up committing the crime.)

Delemios left Maquidato’s dead body in Pasay City, while he brought his Toyota Innova car in Tarlac.

“May two witnesses tayo doon sa pinagbarilan mismo at nakita din yung assailant hinila yung driver pagkabaril at natutuwa pa raw ito bago siya gumalaw. Parang may minutes na nag lull, parang kino contemplate niya paano niya na…bakit nabaril. After that nilaglag niya na lang sa kalye at inalis ang sasakyan” said PSSupt. Dionisio Bartolome.

(We have two witnesses in the area where the shooting happened. The assailant was seen dragging the driver after shooting him and even looking very pleased with it before making a move. There was a lull for several minutes, as if he was contemplating what just happened. After that, he just dropped the victim’s body on the road and drove the car away,” said PSSupt. Dionisio Bartolome.

The suspect also threw into the river the gun he used in killing the Grab driver.

Authorities arrested Delemios in Pasay City after he sent surrender feeler to the police and his mother-in-law.

“‘His whereabouts were also sent to us so there is a semblance of voluntarily surrender that’s why he was immediately arrested by the elements of NCRPO together with CIDG,” said CIDG Director PCSupt. Roel Obusan.

Delemios will face charges of robbery with homicide for robbing and killing Maquidato.

The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group noted that Delemios also has a standing warrant of arrest for a murder case in Parañaque in 2014.— Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
