Suspects in shooting of San Remigio cop undergo paraffin test

AT LEAST three persons of interest in the shooting of a policeman in San Remigio town in northern Cebu were subjected to paraffin testing to determine the presence of gunpowder residue.

Police Major Wendell Abellana, chief of San Remegio Police Station, said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that they are now waiting for the result of the test to determine who among them had fired a shot.

Abellana said they have also three to five witnesses who could give information on the shooting of 38-year-old Police Staff Sergeant Jade Carabuena, whose condition is still being monitored in a hospital.

To recall, Carabuena was shot in the back of his head while trying to break up a fight in Purok Tambis, Barangay Lawis, San Remigio, in the early hours of Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Abellana said Carabuena’s neighbors had sought his assistance after a fight broke out during a neighborhood dance, which was held across the latter’s house. (GPL, TPT)
