Watch: Ryan Reynolds opens up about his decision to take a sabbatical from acting.
Ryan Reynolds has opened up about the reasons behind his decision to take a break from acting.
The Deadpool star made headlines in October when he announced he would be taking "a little sabbatical" after finishing up his new Apple TV Plus film Spirited.
While the 45-year-old actor didn't say much more about his career break at the time, he recently revealed the reasons he's taking some time out and it's all to do with his family.
In a new interview with LinkedIn, Reynolds revealed that while he's got a lot going on with his creative agency, Maximum Effort and his software platform MNTN, his break ultimately boils down to wanting to spend more time with his wife and children.
Reynolds has three daughters James, six, Inez, five, and Betty, two, with wife Blake Lively, and it turns out they were instrumental in the thinking behind his sabbatical.
"The biggest thing for me is that I don't want to miss this time with my kids," he said.
"They go to school during the day, I get to work on MNTN and Maximum Effort," he said, before explaining that things are different when he's shooting a film as the hours are much longer.
"When I'm shooting a film, often I'm in Europe, I'm away, they're incredibly long hours," he explains.
"It's a constant requirement to be there the whole time — not just because I'm performing but I'm also generally producing and writing on my movies as well."
Reynolds went on to say that taking a sabbatical right now felt like "the perfect time" for both his family and his other businesses.
The dad of three went on to say he wants to have a "normal life" and wants his kids to have a "normal schedule," adding that when his wife Blake Lively made a film, he didn't so he could be with the kids, and adding that they would, "never work at the same time".

However, now that his children are in school, Reynolds said they have more of a "normal schedule", which he wants to maintain - and which influenced his decision to have a hiatus.
"I think it's totally important for their development, and I really enjoy being a present dad," he added
"I love taking them to school in the morning, I love picking them up. I love that I have the hours in between to focus on the things that I'm really passionate about. It is a juggling act," Reynolds said.

Reynolds added that while he doesn't miss homeschooling his children, he saw the benefits in getting a glimpse into that aspect of their lives he wouldn't normally get to see.
"I certainly don't miss Zoom school, but it was really lovely to have that insight and visibility into my kids' real daily lives. And for my wife as well."
The actor originally announced his plans to take a break from acting on Instagram back in October.
Sharing photos from the set of Spirited he wrote in the caption that it felt like the right time to take some time out: "Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago.
“Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true... Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making."
The actor later revealed he was hoping to spend some more time with his little ones.
"For me, it's really about getting some quality time with my kids before they're teenagers who loathe me," he joked.
Last month, the actor revealed he would do "just about anything" for his children, describing his three daughters as “priceless” and revealing he often "forsakes sleep" for the youngsters.
When asked what is invaluable to him, the Red Notice star told Entertainment Tonight Canada: “Priceless? I mean I’d be an idiot not to say my children.
"I would do anything for my kids. Anyone who knows me knows that I will forsake sleep when I’m travelling somewhere. Usually I try to get back the same day so I can put them to bed and that kind of stuff.
“So I would do just about anything for my kids.”
