YOUNG achievers and sisters Kiersten Candice and Kylaine Trisha Sy recently won in the Philippine International Math and Science Olympics (Pimso)-Science by the International Champions in Education (ICE), an international competition in Mathematics and Science accredited by the Department of Education.

Pimso aims to unite students across nations and establish their aspirations in pursuit of excellence by recognizing each child’s potential through technologically driven, innovative, fair and relevant opportunities. It is headed by ICE president and chief executive officer Robert Fordan, board members Engr. Ely Rodriguez of Gem B and Dr. Stephen Jinon of Book a Tutor.

The Sy sisters, daughters of businessman Steve Sy and Dr. Cathy Sy, both triumphed in the Science subject over more than a thousand participants from the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Australia, to name a few.

The 13-year-old Kiersten Candice, who loves being in the limelight and models for Great Image, started joining competitions when she was in Grade 1. She joined the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge, the longest-running math competition in the country organized by and in the Visayas. She then became more engaged with Mathematics that made her a part of the Philippine team headed by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG), and led her to compete in Thailand and China. Kiersten Candice did not just gain a medal but an experience that lasts a lifetime. She will now be entering Cebu City National Science High as a Grade 7 student.

Meanwhile, her sister Kylaine Trisha is currently studying at the Cebu Eastern College. The seven-year-old girl idolizes her older sister and wants to follow in her footsteps. That is why she also joined the Pimso by ICE. As young as she is, she has received a lot of achievement awards in school, including her recent win in Pimso by ICE, and is hailed as the Top Scorer in first grade.

Both Kiersten Candice and Kylaine Trisha took the International Science Online Training and Olympiad Preparation (IS On TOP) by ICE as part of their preparation of the competition, on top of studying the materials being provided to them, and praying.

Just like the Sy sisters, other kids also have a chance to become champions with ICE. All students are welcome to check out and join its upcoming competition, the Siam International Math and Science Olympics (Simso). Registration will start in September 2021.
