AFTER two years of postponing its fiesta activities due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the Talisay City Council and heads of Talisay City Hall departments have discussed their preparations for the upcoming celebration.

During its regular session Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the City Council approved Resolution 2022-24 filed by Councilor Lester Daan, declaring October of every year as "Tourism Arts and Culture Month" in Talisay City.

The declaration aims to promote tourism and culture in the city.

Among the highlights of the month-long celebration are the Halad Inasal, Mayor's Cup featuring basketball and volleyball tournaments, disco with live bands, a dog show and night market.

Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas said the Mayor's Cup was launched on September 3 ahead of the other activities as this would last for one month.

"Daghan man kaayo mga team, daghan kaayo mga games ug daghan kaayo mga dibisyon (There are a lot of teams, games of different age divisions). Maybe by the last week or third week of September and the first week of October, we will be conducting other sports activities in time for the fiesta celebration (set on October 15)," Gullas added.

"Magpa-banda ta, naa sab (We will have a live band, a) disco kanang (where) we will put in the spotlight all our local artists. There will be a dog show. Actually, daghan kaayo ta og gipangbuhat (we are doing many things) but everything is still on the air now as our priority concern is maghimo gyud ta ug kalingawan in two areas diri sulod sa City Hall ug sa Poblacion (to hold activities in two areas inside the City Hall and in Poblacion)," Gullas said.

The city celebrates its annual fiesta in honor of their patron saint, Sta. Teresa de Avila, whose feast day is observed every 15th of October. (BBT, TPT)
