Talisay City contingent now ready for Carmen’s Sinulog festival

A TOURISM officer of the Talisay City Government said they are now ready for the 50th Sinulog festival in Carmen town, northern Cebu this coming Sunday, January 22, 2023.

The activity is in line with the Sto. Niño fiesta of the municipality.

Mikki Aznar, head of Talisay City Tourism Office, said she is going to Carmen along with members of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) on Wednesday, January 18, to inspect the billeting area of the city’s 500-strong contingent, which is composed of dancers, props men, production team and support staff.

"Tomorrow, we will be going to Carmen together to see our billeting school, which will be the Carmen Elementary School. So among i-check didto together with our DRRMO officers sa pag-plastar sa mga bata (to prepare it for the children)," Aznar said.

Aznar said the dancing contingent will troop to Carmen on Friday, January 20, to give them time to practice for their performance on Sunday.

"On Friday and Saturday, mao man ang among allotted time for rehearsals and blockings, hatagan mi ug duha ka 30 minutes in separate time," Aznar explained.

The City of Talisay also hired a caterer to provide food for the dancers during their stay in Carmen.

"Para ma less worries ang atong maestra nga motabang, igo na lang ang atoa ang pag-distribute sa mga pagkaon and i-make sure lang nato nga ang atong pagkaon nga gi-order katong taas ug shelf life ug kadtong dili dayon perishable," Aznar said.

(To lessen the worries of the teachers, we will distribute the food and make sure that it has a long shelf life and would last longer.)

The Talisay City contingent is one of the 10 contingents that backed out of the Sinulog Grand Parade in Cebu City on Sunday, January 15, due to incessant rains in the past days prior to Sinulog day that made the venue muddy.

Aznar said they will just spend a little amount for their travel expenses in going to Carmen as they were able to save on transportation cost in last Sunday’s activity.

"For Sinulog sa Carmen, for the dance itself, 95 percent na tang ready kay naa may gipang-usab kay naa man tay digital screen didto sa luyo nag LED wall man si gov (Gwendolyn Garcia) ma-incorporate na sa graphics and i-lessen ang props men," Aznar said.

(For Sinulog sa Carmen, we are 95 percent ready for the dance itself because we made some changes, as the governor had the LED wall installed (backstage) which we can incorporate with the graphics and also lessen the use of props men.)

According to Aznar, they will give their best performance to win the competition.

Aznar added that getting the championship crown is a great blessing from the Holy Child Jesus. (BBT, TPT)
