Talisay City invests P3 million for SWAT training

THE Talisay City Government has allocated P3 million for the training of 20 policemen in the city who aspire to become members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cebu Police Provincial Office Director Colonel Rommel Ochave and Regional Operations Division head Colonel Roland Bulalacao for the said undertaking.

Gullas said the formation of a SWAT team is a great help in enforcing order and peace in the city.

The mayor said that although the training requires big amount of money, he believes that the cost will go back to the government by means of taxes because more traders will invest in the city once the peace and order situation improves.

Gullas said that after the training, their next move for next year would be to allocate a supplemental budget for the purchase of SWAT equipment.

“There are three teams for SWAT, because Talisay is booming, progressing and has a lot of development and we need a police force that is capable of defending the city,” according to Cebu Police Provincial Office Chief Col. Rommel Javier Ochave.

“That's why our plans are to capacitate our police force," he added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Gullas is hoping that the future SWAT team would permanently stay in Talisay.

Colonel Bulalacao, however, said in his speech that the SWAT men are needed to be reshuffled after five years.

"Commitment din yan nang classmate ko na si Col. Ochave ganun po talaga ang swat investment, pero sana advise lang namin na sana after 5 years kailangang palitan na din ang mga personnel," Bulalacao said.

(That's also the commitment of my classmate, Col. Ochave, that's how SWAT investment is, but we can only advise that after five years the personnel will have to be replaced as well).

After the signing of the agreement, the city government and a Talisay-based trader respectively turned over four motorcycles and one motorcycle to “Bisdak” cop riders of Talisay. (BBT, TPT)
