‘Task Force Balik Tukod’ eyed after Sitio Paradise fire

THE Mandaue City Government will create a task force to identify who among the families affected by the fire that hit Sitio Paradise in Barangay Looc will be allowed to build houses in the area again.

The fire affected around 600 families or 250 houses, according to authorities.

Association of Barangay Captains president Ernie Manatad told SunStar Wednesday, November 23, 2022, that during their emergency meeting Wednesday, a motion was passed to create “Task Force Balik Tukod.”

Manatad, who chairs the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the task force will be the one to identify who among the affected families can build structures in the area, which is owned by the City Government.

He said the matter was raised to Mayor Jonas Cortes on Wednesday, as some residents of Sitio Paradise were worried that they might not be allowed to build their homes again.

Cortes told the fire victims on Wednesday, though, that they can return and build their houses, but they have to wait for the City’s signal on when they can go back.

The task force will be composed of representatives from the City engineering department, city planning, Bureau of Fire Protection-Mandaue, Office of the Building Office and barangay.

Cortes will monitor the task force’s performance. (BBT/LMY)
