THE announcement of the President to hold in abeyance the abrogation of the visiting forces agreement (VFA) between the US and the Philippines is a very much welcome move. According to the Palace this is because during this time of pandemic, nations need the help of one another. Besides, the New People’s Army and the terrorists are exploiting the situation and it is only America, the only superpower and richest and strongest country in the world, that we can be assured of military and economic aid in dire situations as we are now in.
The sincerity of America in fulfilling her obligations to her friends and allies was demonstrated during the last world war when it liberated Europe. Likewise, thousands of American youths were killed fighting side by side with our own Filipino soldiers in the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese invaders.
I am one of the many who are elated by the President’s decision. Perhaps the President at long last has seen the light at the end of the tunnel.
