The TerraFirma Dyip finally barged into the win column as they put down the Blackwater Elite, 110-101, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Friday, November 6, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.
The victory ended the Dyip’s seven-game losing streak to improve their win-loss card to 1-7. On the other hand, Blackwater lost for the fifth time in a row to drop to 2-6.
Budding star CJ Perez was his usual spectacular self as he tallied 27 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. However, this time, the reigning Rookie of the Year got plenty of help from the likes of top draft pick Roosevelt Adams who had a huge double-double of 20 points and 16 boards and Juami Tiongson, who scored 19 markers including a late triple that sealed the victory for TerraFirma.
Eric Camson and JP Calvo also came off the bench put up 11 points apiece for the Dyip.
The game was neck-to-neck with Blackwater pulling to within four, 101-105, after an Ed Daquioag basket with just 2:19 to go in the game. However, the Elite lost track of Tiongson who sank a wide-open three-pointer from the right wing to give the Dyip a 108-101 lead with just 1:15 left on the clock.
The loss spoiled a vintage performance by Blackwater forward Niño Cañaleta who scored 29 points. Don Trollano and Roi Sumang fired in 16 and 15 points, respectively. (JNP)
