The American actor, 26, walked the red carpet tonight for the premiere of his latest flick Bones and All in a completely backless, shiny red jumpsuit featuring a very fitted behind. A halter and wraparound neckline finished the look.
Known for his sartorial prowess and boundary-pushing ensembles, Chalamet fans are used to seeing the Call Me by Your Name star in outfits that surprise.
This is the Oscar-nominated star who wore a Louis Vuitton harness to the 2019 Golden Globes, after all.
But this outfit, a custom number designed by French fashion house Haider Ackermann, took bold event dressing to a whole new high.
The look received mixed reviews on social media, with a number of Twitter users questioning Chalamet's choice.
But his fans were keen to celebrate the red-hot nature of the outfit.
"When Timothée Chalamet walks past you backless and the world just stops," one Twitter user wrote.
"Timothée Chalamet is the most special sexy man alive.. no one can forget him," tweeted another.
A third wrote: "Timothée Chalamet woke up and decided to end us all."
Chalamet isn't the only male A-lister doing things his own way on the red carpet.
Recently Brad Pitt rocked a skirt while promoting his new film Bullet Train. Reflecting on the look, the 58-year-old star said after he was keen to 'mess it up'.
Other male and non-binary superstars who have challenged male style stereotypes include Guns’N’Roses front man Axl Rose, who was seen wearing a leather pleated skirt during a Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992.
Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was known for pushing the boat out on stage and in photoshoots with floral dresses and knitted skirts.
In later years, a new wave of rappers and hip hop stars have taken on the mantle of the skirt, with Kanye West, A$AP Rocky and Kid Cudi all opting to bare their legs on stage and at press events. men
