THE TNT Tropang Giga regained their winning form as they took down the Meralco Bolts, 92-79, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Saturday, November 7, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.
Fresh off a deflating loss to Barangay Ginebra, TNT found their shooting touch to frustrate Meralco and get their seventh win in 10 games. The win also formalized the Tropang Giga’s entry into the quarterfinal round.
After a dismal shooting performance against the Gin Kings, Cebuano wingman Roger Ray Pogoy found his rhythm and led TNT with 27 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Jayson Castro also had a stellar game with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
TNT’s versatile wingman Bobby Ray Parks collected another double-double with 17 points and 11 boards while Troy Rosario, who had the worst game of his pro career last time out with just two points on 0-for-15 shooting from the field, bounced back with 11 markers.
TNT put the pressure on Meralco early as they erected a 29-19 lead after the first canto. The Tropang Giga kept their foot on the gas pedal and led by 16, 78-62, after a basket by Rosario early in the fourth quarter.
Meralco had their two-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-4 (win-loss). Chris Newsome paced the Bolts with 17 points while Cliff Hodge and Raymond Almazan scored 14 markers each. (JNP)
