TOKYO — Singapore's sailing duo Kimberly Lim and Cecilia Low finished 10th out of 10 teams in the medal race of the women's 49er FX class at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour on Tuesday (3 August).

With the result, they were placed 10th overall out of 21 teams in the competition with 117 points. It is the best-ever performance by Singapore sailors at the Olympics.

Argentina's Victoria Travascio and Maria Sol Branz won the medal race, but it was the Brazilian duo of Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze who clinched the gold medal with 76 points. Germany's Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke (83 points) won the silver, while the Netherlands' Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz got the bronze (88 points).

The race was postponed from Monday owing to inclement weather.

Lim, 24, and Low, 30, had recorded Singapore's best-ever result in Olympic sailing on Saturday, finishing ninth out of 21 teams in the competition and becoming the first sailors to qualify for the medal race of an Olympic event.

They were the only Asian team to make it to the medal race.
