THE tricycle driver who allegedly mauled and stabbed to death his fellow tricycle driver in Toledo City during an argument over their passengers surrendered to local police on Friday morning, June 24, 2022.

Staff Sgt. Florentino Ariate, investigating officer of Toledo City Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that John Camilo Alferez surrendered to them three days after he killed fellow tricycle driver Jophel Basilan.

On Tuesday, June 21, Basilan was reportedly arguing with Alferez after the latter accused the victim of taking his passengers.

Their argument eventually turned fatal after Alferez mauled Basilan using a large piece of wood.

After mauling Basilan, Alferez stabbed the victim several times using a screwdriver before fleeing from the scene of the crime.

Ariate told SunStar Cebu that Alferez decided to surrender as he had been haunted by his conscience.

Alferez is now detained at the police station’s custodial facility and is set to face murder charges.
