Torres beats Perouene in Spain

NORWAY-BASED Boholano Bernard Torres kept his unbeaten slate after a split decision win over Argentina’s Mauro Perouene at the WizInk Center in Madrid, Spain, Jan. 27, 2022 (PH time).

Two judges saw Torres ahead with scores of 96-94 and 96-95, while the other judge saw it differently and scored it 96-94 in favor of Perouene.

Torres won the International Boxing Organization (IBO) IberoAmerican featherweight belt.

Torres remained unbeaten with 16-0 with seven knockouts, while Perouene dropped to 13-5-1 with six knockouts.

The 25-year-old Torres is a native of Tagbilaran City and also represented the city in the amateur ranks. He owns three wins in the amateur ranks over World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Mark Magsayo.

Torres settled in Norway and made his pro debut in 2017 with a unanimous decision over Jano Partsvania in Skien, Norway. He fought most of his pro fights in Spain and Norway.
