Tourism chief may attend Sinulog sa Carmen

TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco is expected to attend the Sinulog sa Carmen, which will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

Carmen Mayor Carlo Villamor said Frasco has earlier expressed her support to the Municipal Government.

Frasco is currently in Cebu as she joined the Suroy Suroy Sugbo-Northern Escapade, a tourism event promoting several spots in the province of Cebu.

"Yes, expected na si DOT (Department of Tourism) Secretary Frasco...mao na ato giampo gyud nga hatagan ta sa Sr. Santo Niño nga maayo sad ang weather," said Villamor on Thursday, January 19.

(Yes, DOT Secretary Frasco is expected to attend...that’s why we are praying to Sr. Sto. Niño for good weather.)

During Suroy Suroy Sugbo-Northern Escapade, Frasco announced that the DOT will host the Suroy Suroy Philippines, details of which have yet to be released, though.

Villamor said as they celebrate the town’s 50th Sinulog sa Carmen this year, they are praying for a booming tourism in Carmen.

Aside from the Sinulog, Carmen also boasts of other tourism spots, including the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park, Mangitngit Falls and Middle Earth Mountain Resort, Lapus-Lapus cave, Carmen Bay, and its municipal plaza.

The Sinulog sa Carmen on Sunday will start with a Mass at the San Agustin Church at 10 a.m., followed by the ritual showdown of local contingents, and open category ritual showdown at 6 p.m.

The open category will feature contingents from outside the town. (ANV/LMY)
