THERE will be a series of traffic re-routing in Lapu-Lapu City due to road closures in six barangays during the Ironman Philippines 70.3 event on Sunday, August 7, 2022.

The city’s Public Information Office announced this on social media on Wednesday, August 3, four days prior to the event.

During their coordination meeting on Wednesday, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said road closures will take place in Barangays Mactan, Punta Engaño, Maribago, Agus, Marigondon, and Subabasbas.

The mayor earlier announced that there will be road closures during that day from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. to ensure the safety of participants, which was why he urged the public to travel ahead of the time.

Chan also appealed to the general public, including motorists, to be patient should they experience heavy traffic.

He also gave the same advice to those who have scheduled flights on that day, adding that there will be establishments offering airport lounge for them to stay while waiting for for their departure.

Apart from that, Chan also urged pet owners and caretakers of animals such as dog, cat, cow, goat, chicken, among others, to avoid them from getting into the race courses.

As of August 3, about 1,900 participants coming from 46 countries around the world already arrived in Cebu to join the much-awaited triathlon event. (MKG)
