‘Transitory housing’ eyed for Paradise fire victims

FIRE victims in Sitio Paradise, Barangay Looc, Mandaue City may soon be transferred to the "transitory housing" the City Government is planning to put up at the four-hectare idle land in front of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

During the City Council’s regular session on Monday, November 28, 2022, lawyer John Eddu Ibañez, executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes, said the private company that is currently leasing the city-owned prime lot has allowed the City Government to use the premises.

But Ibañez said they do not have any other property that could cater to over 700 affected families from Barangay Looc and about 500 families currently residing at the CICC.

"That is only transitory. Ibutang sila diha in preparation sa atoang 14,000 units nga socialized housing," said Ibañez, who is referring to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) entered into by the City Government and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD) on Friday, November 25.

The housing project is located in Sitio Maharlika in Barangay Tipolo.

Ibañez said the plan is to build decent houses for fire victims in the city, particularly for those who were recently affected in Sitio Paradise.

"Lisod pod kaayo nga diha-diha sila mobalik knowing lisod kaayo ilahang kahimtang," he said. (MKG)
