Transportation office to strictly implement traffic rules

THE Cebu City Government will soon implement strict traffic rules through the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) for public utility vehicles and commuters along Colon Street, which will be considered the pilot area for a “traffic discipline zone.”

This has been agreed by the newly formed committee, the Cebu City Traffic Management Committee, during its first meeting Wednesday, July 13, 2022, as reported by the Cebu City PIO.

Traffic rules, such as the loading and unloading of vehicles on designated areas, will soon be put into practice with stern implementation.

Lawyer Rico Rey Francis “Koko” Holganza, chairman of the committee, said the creation of the committee is necessary to address traffic problems.

“This is a very important committee. Hopefully, we can come up with something concrete for the City kay daghan og problems nga giatiman in terms of traffic,” Holganza said Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

He recalled how both public utility vehicles and modern jeepneys caused traffic congestion due to lack of compliance to the traffic rule on loading and unloading areas for vehicles.

Paul Gotiong, CCTO head, said they have put up new and clear traffic signages in areas that are easily noticed by commuters and drivers.

Aside from this traffic discipline zone plan, the committee passed two resolutions directing the CCTO to negotiate with the Cebu City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit and transport representatives to study the planned traffic moves.

The second resolution passed was about the call for CCTO to intensify the apprehension of private vehicles that are using sirens and blinkers.

The meeting of the committee was attended by 13 members out of 20 official members. (Jeanie Mea Pitor, CNU intern)
