'Transracial' man born white in Florida now identifies as Filipino and drives a purple tuk tuk to 'embrace identity’

A man who was born white considers himself ‘transracial’ – and now lives his life as a Filipino.

Now going by the name Ja Du, the man formerly known as Adam is embracing his new identity by driving a purple Tuk Tuk – a vehicle used in the Philippines.

Ja Du claims he realised he was born in the wrong race after learning more about Filipino life, saying that he was drawn to the country’s food and traditions from an early age.

He told WTSP: “I’d watch the History Channel, sometimes for hours, you know, whenever it came to that, and you know, nothing else intrigued me more but things about Filipino culture…

“Whenever I’m around the music, around the food, I feel like I’m in my own skin.”

Ja Du insists his identity change is genuine but worries how others will react to him now living as a Filipino man.

He added: “If you’re unhappy with who you are and you change things for the better then go for it.”

Ja Du also regards himself as transexual and is considering changing gender in future.

Former NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal identified herself as transracial in 2015 after she was outed as a white woman who passed herself off as black.

She said at the time:“I haven’t identified as African-American. I’ve identified as black. And black is a culture, a philosophy, a political and social view.”
