Tropical storm Ursula entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday (December 23) at 5:00 a.m.
According to 8:00 A.M. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the weather system was spotted 900km east of Hinatuan Surigao del Sur.
It is moving west northwest at 25 km/hr, packing maximum sustained winds of 66 km/hr and gustiness of up to 80 km/hr.
Based on the forecast track of PAGASA, Ursula is expected to make landfall in Eastern Visayas Tuesday night (December 24) or on December 25.
Areas under tropical cyclone wind signal #1 are as follows:
- Eastern Samar
- Dinagat Islands
- Parts of Surigao del Norte (Burgos, Sta. Monica, San Isidro, San Benito, Del Carmen, Pilar, Dapa, Gen. Luna at Socorro)
The said areas will experience winds of up to 60 km/hr within 36 hours.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the following areas will experience moderate to heavy rains:
Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the northern portions of Cebu and Negros Occidental.
Light to moderate rain will be experienced in Quezon and the rest of Visayas, Bicol Region and Surigao del Norte.
PAGASA added that moderate to rough seas will prevail over coastal areas of Bicol region, eastern Visayas and CARAGA region beginning Monday night ( December 23).
PAGASA said Tropical Storm Ursula may intensify as it nears the country.
