THE Truck N’ Trail Transport Services picked up their first win in style, routing the powerhouse ARQ Builders, 92-72, in the second day of action in the Mayor Michael Rama Basketball Invitational League 2022 on Saturday night, May 28, 2022, at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
It was a close game through the first three periods with Truck N’ Trail leading by just foiur, 64-60, but the Phil Mercader-coached squad found their groove in the fourth canto, unleashing a massive 28-12 run to run away with the lead and the win.
Shane “The Game” Menina—a former Cesafi Mythical Five guard—led the way for Truck N’ Trail with 24 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while power forward Joshua dela Cerna had 17 points and six boards.
University of the Visayas big men Ted Saga and Michael Maestre had 16 and 13 points, respectively, the latter grabbing 11 boards.
Truck N’ Trail and ARQ now hold identical 1-1 records. The top two teams at the end of the elimination round will battle for the championship.
Meanwhile, in the first game, the Deon Motors grabbed its second straight win with a 95-71 rout of the Court Generals.
Former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto kept it going as he had 20 points and eight rebounds in the lopsided victory.
Guards Steve Castro and Gab Cometa were also productive as they tallied 15 markers apiece, while Luigi Gabisan had 11 points and seven boards.
Former University of San Carlos stud Giovanni Padillo—back in commercial basketball action for the first time in over a decade—led the Court Generals with 18 points. (JNP)
