UAE champions Al Ain keen on Michel Bastos and Premier League striker

UAE champions Al Ain have admitted they are interested in Olympique Lyonnais' Brazil international Michel Bastos, following French reports claiming he was all set to join the club.

Le Parisien reported this week that the 28-year-old former Lille left back was close to a four-year deal with Al Ain for €7million, rising to €9m.

The possible move comes following comments by Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas who suggested Michel Bastos only plays well when he feels like it.

According to a Sport360 report, Al Ain admitted they were keen on the Brazilian but insisted the deal was far from done.

“Bastos is one of several players that is on our radar as we look to replace Scocco and Yasser,” a club source told Sport360, following the departure of Ignacio Scocco and striker Yasser Al Qahtani.

Meanwhile, Al Ain chief executive Carlo Nohra revealed the club was closing in on a replacement for Al Qahtani who has returned to Al Hilal, with an unnamed Premier League striker top of their list.

"We're in talks with a player from the Premier League to cover Yasser's position, although I can't tell you where the negotiations are, and what the outcome may be, because I'm not party to those discussions," he said according to The National.

"Representatives of the club have been dealing with this for the past 10 or 12 days, but there is no particular date yet for resolution. I'm sure they have one in mind, because if he doesn't want to come then somebody else will have to be sought."
