THE University of Cebu (UC) and Unit 1 shared the spotlight, winning the secondary and elementary titles in the 2019 Cebu City Olympics, which concluded on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
UC claimed the overall title in the secondary division in a dominating fashion after collecting a total of 78 gold medals, 66 silvers and 50 bronze medals.
Unit 9/ Abellana National School finished in second place with a total haul of 36 gold medals, 18 silvers and 20 bronzes, while the University of San Carlos settled in third place with 35 gold medals, 45 silvers and 29 bronzes.
Unit 1 claimed the overall crown in the elementary level after hauling 31 gold medals, 32 silvers and 31 bronzes.
Unit 1 is composed of Don Vicente Rama Elementary School, Basak Community Elementary School, Mangabon Elementary School, Tisa National High School, Cebu City Science High, Pamutan Integrated School, Toong Integrated School, Buhisan Integrated School, 3H Redwood Academy, Punta Princesa Elementary School and Tisa II Elementary School.
UC also made its presence felt in the elementary division as the school finished second overall with 20 gold medals, 10 silver medals and four bronzes. Unit 7 rounded up the top three with 19 gold medals, 12 silvers and 15 bronzes.
Unit 1 (21-21-34) finished in fourth place and Unit 8 (17-13-19) was at fifth place in the secondary division, while Unit 5 (18-26-23) and Unit 4 (15-10-12) completed the top five in the elementary side.
In the final day of competition, the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) completed a sweep in the football competition at the Cebu City Sports Center.
DBTC’s secondary team defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos, 3-0. DBTC’s younger players duplicated that feat with a 4-0 win over the Paref Springdale School in the elementary division.
The medalists in the Cebu City Olympics will represent the Cebu City Niños in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet, which is the qualifier for the annual Palarong Pambansa. (RSC)
