UNITED City FC (UCFC) has signed experienced British coach Jason Withe to lead the squad for its upcoming campaign in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.

“We are proud to announce the addition of Jason Withe, a UEFA Pro License holder, to work alongside Frank Muescan and playing-coach Stephan Schröck during the AFC Champions League group stages in June/July,” wrote UCFC in a statement posted in its official Facebook page.

After a short four-year career as a professional football with clubs in England and Finland, Withe started a coaching stint in Birmingham City, wherein he was the community football director. He also had a stint as a coach educator for Aston Villa.

Withe had his first head coaching job in 1999 with Thai club BEC Tero Sasana. He steered the club to a double championship by winning the Thailand Premier League and Thailand FA Cup titles.

Withe also managed Singapore club Home United, Indonesian club Pestabola Merdeka, Nakhon Pathom United, Super Power Samut Prakan, Bangkok Bank, Songkhla United and Deffo. He also served as assistant coach for the Thailand national team in 2001 and for the Indonesia national team from 2005 to 2007. Aside from that he worked as club director for Sukhothai, which won the Thailand FA Cup in 2016.

Withe will bring in a load of experience in Asian football to help UCFC in its first stint in the AFC Champions League.

UCFC is in a tough group, Group I, along with J1 League titleholder Kawasaki Frontale, China powerhouse Beijing FC and the playoff winner between 2018 K-League 1 FA Cup champion Daegu FC and 2019 Thai League 1 titleholder Chiangrai United FC. (EKA)
