UCFC, Kaya FC-Iloilo beat foes

LEAGUE favorites United City Football Club (UCFC) and Kaya FC-Iloilo continue to roll in the Philippines Football League (PFL) with victories last Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

UCFC, formerly known as Ceres Negros FC, displayed its championship form led by Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon’s hat trick for a lopsided 6-0 beating of Mendiola FC 1991.

Marañon headed in the opening goal in the 12th minute from a free kick by skipper Stephan Schrock. He then hit his second goal in the 25th minute with a volley coming off a deflected cross pass.

Senegalese forward Robert Lopez Mendy joined in the action and hit his first goal in the 38th minute.

Marañon scored his hat trick right before the half with a penalty shot in the 44th minute for a dominating 4-0 lead coming into halftime.

Mike Ott opened the second half after converting his penalty kick in the 52nd minute.

Mendy then finished off Mendiola FC 1991 with a header in the 59th minute.

“It doesn’t matter if I score one, two or three goals what matters is that the team won and we got our three points,” said Marañon.

Meanwhile, Kaya FC-Iloilo beat Azkals Development Team (ADT), 1-0.

Kenshiro Daniels scored the lone goal in the 16th minute after breaking away from Mar Diano.

UCFC takes the tops spot of the PFL rankings with six points and just ahead on goal difference over second place Kaya FC-Iloilo. Maharlika Manila FC is third with three points. Stallion Laguna FC is fourth, ADT is fifth and Mendiola FC 1991 sits at last place.
