SENIOR citizen financial assistance which cannot be claimed during the grace period will revert to the Cebu City Government’s general fund.
Senior citizens who fail to claim the financial assistance during the house-to-house distribution have 10 days to get their assistance from their respective barangays.
In a press conference on Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2020, Cebu City Attorney Rey Gealon, the mayor’s spokesperson, emphasized that the grace period of 10 days will only apply once the community quarantine status will be lifted.
Cebu City is currently under modified general community quarantine.
Gealon said the senior citizens can also authorize their kin to claim the financial assistance on their behalf.
The authorized person should present valid documents including original and photocopy of Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca) identification card, authorization letter or letter of authority to receive, photocopy of the senior citizen’s latest picture with current calendar, and photocopy of the claimant’s ID.
The house-to-house distribution for senior citizen financial assistance will start on Sept. 5.
The senior citizens will receive P3,000 to cover the months of June, July and August.
In his recent executive order (EO) issued on Sept. 2, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella included that there should be no distribution of financial assistance at the Cebu City Hall.
This is to avoid repeating the incident that happened in June when a number of senior citizens went to the City Hall to claim their cash assistance.
Gealon said the senior citizens are included in the stay-at-home order.
For senior citizens who died during the months of June, July and August, Labella, through the EO, advised the kin of the deceased senior citizens to visit the Osca office or the City Treasurer’s Office after the distribution period.
Labella stated in the EO that all concerns and questions will be addressed only after the distribution period. / JJL
