THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars demolished Abellana National School (ANS), 101-35, in the Cebu qualifier of the SM-NBTC League at the Cebu City Sports Institute on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020.
USJ-R did not waste any time in asserting its dominance, scoring the game’s first 16 points before establishing a huge 51-16 lead at halftime. From that point onwards, the proceedings became a mere formality before coming away with a 66-point margin of victory.
Five different players scored in double-figures for USJ-R led by Ryzel Abatayo who had 15 points while Chad Sagmon pulled off a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with four blocks.
Anton Co and Santos Go had 12 points apiece with the former adding nine rebounds, five assists and three steals across his name. Kendrick Guibao added 11 points.
In the other game, the Don Bosco Greywolves thumped the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology, 79-67. The Greywolves started slow and trailed, 15-17, at the end of the first before getting their rhythm to surge in front, 36-29, at halftime. They did not look back after that to snatch the victory.
Vincent Escobido tallied 23 points for Don Bosco while his brother, Imran, added 13. (JNP)
