USJ-R stays perfect in Boys-18

THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) took advantage of a late breakdown by the University of San Carlos (USC), 6-2, to extend its undefeated streak in the Boys 18 division of the AboitizLand Football Cup at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu field on Feb. 2, 2020.

USC got the lead first courtesy of Johan Cargones in the 18th minute before Dustin Ramirez equalized seven minutes later. In the 29th, USC got the lead again after Louie Arreglo scored but USJ-R fought back again in the 38th courtesy of Louis Adrian Colina.

The two teams were still at 2-2 before a breakdown in the USC defense allowed USJ-R to score four goals in a seven minute span. Churchill Jubac gave the Jaguars the lead in the 73rd and two minutes later Renz Murillo added a fourth. Murillo added his second in the 77th before John Vincent Tejas completed the rout in the 80th minute.

KNF-DBBH also boosted its chances to make the semifinal after holding off the Cebu International School (CIS), 2-1. John Bearne Cuadra gave KNF the lead in the 18th and John Gabriel Gandhi doubled it in the 24th. Tatsu Nishikura cut the lead for CIS after scoring in the 59th but they couldn’t find an equalizer and suffered its third straight loss.

USJ-R holds the lead in Group B with nine points, while KNF-DBBH and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) B are tied at six points. Both CIS and USC are last having lost all three games.

In Group A, Boystown, DBTC A and Giuseppe have three points each, while Giuseppe is last after losing all three games.

In the Men’s Open Division 1, Leylam FC kicked off its title defense in style with a 5-1 rout University of San Carlos in Group B. Saumah led the rout with two goals, while Marius, Alassang and Pacite had one goal each. (PR)
