The exodus from the University of Santo Tomas continued on Monday night as star wingman Rhenz Abando has reportedly left the Growling Tigers men’s basketball team.
Abando also posted messages of thanks to the school that helped him become one of the most promising amateur basketball players on his social media pages.
“Thank you for your unending grace,” read Abando’s post on Twitter.
With UST’s future uncertain because of the controversy surrounding the alleged Sorsogon training camp the Growling Tigers engaged in, the 6-foot-2 high-flyer has apparently made the decision to depart. Numerous sources with knowledge of the situation have mentioned Abando heading to the reigning NCAA champions, Letran Knights.
Abando was a key piece in UST’s run to the finals in Season 82 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) where he averaged 11.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.
Also leaving UST is big man Ira Bataller who got embroiled in the controversy when he talked about not getting immediate professional care when he experienced abdominal pain during the alleged training camp.
The two are the latest names to leave UST after Brent Paraiso left a few days ago while team captain was ousted from the team a few weeks ago. Cansino has since joined the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons while it remains to be seen what Paraiso’s next move is going to be.
Abando on the other hand, is set to join a formidable Letran squad that will be led by fearless guard Fran Yu, who will be playing in his final year for the Knights. (JNP)
