Utzurrum: Broadening knowledge through international collaboration

·2 min read

In its desire to improve its curriculum and learning strategies, Childlink Learning Center and High School continues to collaborate with educational institutions abroad. The collaboration was done with three Z Clubs in Hong Kong high schools who focused on anti-cyber bullying, an advocacy of Childlink. These three Z clubs are Junior Clubs of Zonta International and share the same advocacy, so a social link was created among them to increase awareness.

The next connection was with Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan where the students experienced preparation for college life.

“They were exposed to new trends in technology when applied to learning, such as animation and 3-D printing, using a special printer. With this, the Childlink group has learned to program and make their own products,” said Maria Theresa Tio, Childlink managing director and president.

As a result of the Taiwan collaboration, some of their college students came to Childlink to teach, and guess what? Among the very interesting subjects were Taiwanese food and games!

It was in 2019 when Childlink students attended their third collaboration in Singapore with the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM). Many new practices were absorbed by the students, even ideas on how to set up a Wellness Center. This facility is where SIM conducts student’s social and emotional wellness needs.

Back in Cebu, Childlink then set up a similar center in barangay Guadalupe, which had to be discontinued due to the ongoing pandemic.

Collaboration with Japanese schools was done mostly through webinars, wherein Childlink students shared poems written by Filipinos on freedom, while the Japanese focused on courage and love of country. On a lighter note, there were cultural exchanges featuring Japanese anime and food.

On the other hand, Pinoys displayed our famous tourist spots, songs, dances etc.

“We want our students to be not only academically equipped, but globally aware on the real situation in the country, be it social, cultural, political etc. With this kind of training in school, coupled with foreign collaboration, they will be amply prepared to face the world,” said Tio.
