Vayson faces Akui in Japan

UNBEATEN up-and-comer Jayson Vayson is in for another tough assignment overseas as he takes on Japanese Seigo Yuri Akui in a 10-rounder on Feb. 4, 2023, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 24-year-old Vayson fought outside of the country in his last two fights. He fought world-rated Indonesian Tibo Monabesa to a no contest in a World Boxing Council (WBC) International light flyweight battle in Indonesia. Vayson followed it up with a split-decision win over Indian Nutlai Lalbiakkima to win the WBC Asian Boxing Council light flyweight strap in Dubai.

The 27-year-old Akui is a former Japanese flyweight champion. He has fought but lost to the likes of former world champion Junto Nakatani and Pinoy veteran Jasever Abcede.

Akui is currently on a hot streak, winning his last four contests. He won by a 10-round technical knockout against Taku Kuwahara.

Vayson, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, is 10-0-1 with five knockouts, while Akui is 17-2-1 with 11 knockouts. (EKA)
