Vessel Runs Aground In Cebu

TALISAY CITY, Cebu - Passenger vessel, M/V Trans Asia 9, with 364 passengers, including four children, ran aground at the Lawis Ledge in Talisay City on its way to Cebu City Saturday morning due to miscalculations by the skipper on board.

The Cebu Coast Guard said the vessel ran aground at past 5 a.m. yesterday when the chief mate allegedly miscalculated the route, and hit a shallow area.

Vessel captain, Gorgonio Piangga, said it was his chief mate who was maneuvering the vessel when it ran aground just a few kilometers away from Cebu port. Piangga told the Coast Guard that his chief mate admitted to him that he miscalculated the route.
