(UPDATE) Singer Victor Wood will not be able to run for senate for the second time.

This comes after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared him as a nuisance candidate along with 49 others who filed their certificates of candidacy earlier in October.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Wood failed to prove his capability to launch a massive campaign should he be allowed to join the senatorial race for 2013 mid-term elections.

“(He) was unable to prove his capacity to wage a national campaign. He used to run with a party but (now) he’s not,” Jimenez told Yahoo! Philippines.

Wood, who first joined the senatorial race in the mid-term polls under Kilusang Bagong  Lipunan (KBL) in 2007, filed his candidacy as an independent candidate on Oct. 5.

Losing his senatorial bid five years ago, the “Jukebox King” vowed to fight hunger and poverty when given a chance to become a senator this time.

Best known for his hit singles in 1970s, Wood also promised to grant housing spaces and jobs for those without permanent shelter.

The 66-year old artist behind hits “In Despair,” "Mr. Lonely," and "Release Me" also starred in a number of films under Sampaguita Pictures.
