After a video of their staff recklessly hurling packages into a truck circulated on social media, a local courier company yesterday said that the matter is being dealt with accordingly, and assured the public that the snafu was a single, stray incident.
“We would like to reiterate that we do not tolerate such acts and behavior, and we humbly take responsibility for this incident,” J&T Express Philippines said.
“We would also like to assure the public that this is an isolated case. All of our facilities, including our branches and warehouses across the country, are under 24/7 monitoring. We also follow strict protocols in handling the shipments and ensure that these are handled with proper care.”
One of the largest e-commerce delivery companies in Southeast Asia, J&T also added that they have identified all the involved personnel in the video, who will face the “proper sanctions.”
The company said it “plans to provide incentives” for loyal customers who are choosing their service despite the incident but did not say if they will provide compensation for any damages on deliveries.
We have received complaints on the mishandling of parcels as shown in a viral video, circulating on social media. We…
Earlier this week, the video below made rounds on social media. It shows several shirtless men, most of them without face masks, unceremoniously hurling plastic parcels into a J&T delivery truck. The nearly two-minute footage appears to have been taken inside the company’s warehouse.
The footage drew public outrage, mostly from owners of online businesses who have relied on couriers such as J&T to send products to their customers while the country is still under quarantine.
This includes businesswoman Joy Cruz, who said that she had to close her online store because the e-commerce site Shopee, where she sells her products, exclusively works with the offending courier.
“They lost 7 packages, would claim items are not ready for pickup or [the] recipient is unavailable when in fact they never came,” she wrote in reaction to J&T’s explanation.
“This courier lacks professionalism and integrity and the fact that it is widespread means they tolerate it,” she added.
“All your facilities and warehouses are 24/7 monitored? Then how come this video exists? This video says it all, no one’s supervising them, they have no mask, no proper attire/hygiene care,” wrote Coney Rose Salvador.
Meanwhile, a certain Dave Alonzo had a hard time believing that the case was an isolated incident.
“If this video didn’t go viral, you will keep tolerating this practice,” he said.
