Deputies Pull Man From Bridge Ledge After DUI Leads to Chase in Tampa Bay

A deputy with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department pulled a man off the edge of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay, Florida, at about 2 am on September 12, after he allegedly nearly ran a deputy over and led officers on a car chase.

Aerial footage shows a man getting out of a pickup truck and sitting on the bridge’s edge. Officers then surround him and eventually pull him to safety.

The sheriff’s department wrote, “A man led deputies on a pursuit following a DUI traffic stop and nearly ran over a deputy before driving to the top of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and climbing on the edge barrier wall. As he sat on the barrier wall with both feet over the edge, deputies pleaded with him to get down, and when they saw an opportunity, one of the deputies selflessly pulled him to safety.”

Local news reported the man, identified as 23-year-old Scott Rapson, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, DUI, and fleeing to elude. Credit: Manatee County Sheriff’s Department via Storyful
