Fissure Reactivates in Hawaii, Spattering Lava and Emitting Gas

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that Fissure 8, one of the westernmost active fissures on Kīlauea Volcano’s lower East Rift Zone, reactivated on the night of May 25 to 26.

USGS also released this footage of lava spattering and gas emitting from the fissure. A mini-spatter cone seen on the right of the video was also constantly active, USGS said. Credit: USGS via Storyful
