A “monster” crocodile was spotted lurking in the waters off the coastal Queensland town of Port Douglas on August 7.
Fisherman Richard Gilmore filmed the crocodile from a boat as the semiaquatic reptile bopped in the choppy waves. In the video, it appears nonchalant to the approaching vessel at first but eventually turns away from Gilmore’s boat and sinks into the water.
“He’s a monster,” Gilmore remarks, adding, “Look at the size of the head on him too.”
Crocodiles are common across Australia’s tropical north with state and territory governments urging citizens to be cautious around all waterways. In 2020, Queensland authorities received 178 reports of crocodile sightings as of May. Credit: Richard Gilmore via Storyful
